What makes Xavier Biggs extraordinary?  In his natural
setting, the boxing gym, he has uniqueness in training style
and ability that is unparalleled in Atlanta and qualified to
stand toe to toe with the best trainers in the world.  One
needs only to look at his boxing background and impressive
resume to determine his worth, and the privilege realized by
those trained by him.  But why not?  His father was a boxer,
his uncle was a boxer who sparred with the great Joe
Louis, his brother, Olympic Super Heavyweight Gold
Medalist Tyrell Biggs, at his influence became a boxer and
of course, Xavier found himself there, in the boxing gym,
where he became yet another addition to a family legacy of
boxing talent.  A product of Philadelphia’s boxing elite, Xavier
Biggs turned to professional boxing after a short-lived
undefeated amateur career at the suggestion of his
legendary trainer Jimmy Arthur.  During his professional
career he had the privilege of training under several
legendary Philadelphia trainers including Quenzell McCall,
Georgie Benton, and Slim Perkins.  Under such tutorage
Xavier was able to serve as chief sparring partner for
Philadelphia legend Bobby “Boogaloo” Watts while Watts
trained for a comeback fight.  He sparred with champions
Robert Hines, Buster Drayton, and Mike Rossman, all
the while increasing his own skill and technique, making a
name for himself among Philadelphia’s skilled “sharp-
shooters”.  As his talent became obvious, Xavier suffered an
extremely frustrating career having more than 35 opponents
pull out from scheduled fights.  At one point he was offered a
promotional contract, but turned it down after feeling that his
loyalties and obligations would be jeopardized were he to
accept.  So it was that after seven and a half frustrating
years and little activity, Xavier decided to retire his own
career to assist his younger brother Tyrell, as “Ty” made the
transition from amateur to professional boxing after
becoming the first Olympic Super Heavyweight Gold Medal
    Champion.     continue
